100 Questions for a DeviantARTIST
01.] What is your pen name?
Kigerwolf (KigerwolfRD). I really want to change it cause I kinda hate it but I've had it so long now I feel I'm forever stuck with it. >.<
02.] What made you choose this name?
I explained this before but the 'kiger' is the breed of horse that Spirit is from my favorite animated film, and 'wolf' cause I was a wolfaboo once upon a time...
03.] Do you use PC or Mac?
PC
04.] What programs do you use most often?
Photoshop4 or Pixlr.com
05.] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
I used to use tablet, but I lost patience with the blasted thing, so mouse. But I always do my lines traditionally cause I like quality and fuck patience.
06.] What color or color combinations do you find yourself using most often?
Probably blues. It's my favorite color, so many of my characters are stuck with it. Also green and browns as my fandoms sport those colors a lot and I tend to draw what I love. Drawing blood is fun so I often use reds for that reason. I hate bright colors like pink and yellow, so those are rarely seen unless it's on a commission or the like.
07.] What part of a picture do you put most effort into?
Lines. I get so nit picky about them sometimes I almost go insane, but especially if it's in pen. Cause mess up with that and you're fucked as life doesn't have "ctrl + z".
08.] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
Oh noes hope my commissioners aren't reading. ...It really depends on inspiration and if I can art that day, but maybe half an hour to an hour for lines, and two or so hours for colors on the comp if it's a "digital drawing". Marker drawing depending on details maybe an hour or so? I don't usually time these things, but I'm ball parking by how many episodes of whatever it takes to get done with a piece as I like background noise while drawing.
09.] Do you keep your rough drafts?
Yea I have a habit of keeping everything. Even if it sucks. Rarely do I throw so much as a doodle out but I love sketches, concepts, lines, etc, so yes. I keep drafts. (if i even draw them as i usually dive right in and wing it)
10.] What font do you use most often?
I sometimes put words on my images, but usually not unless it's a graphic. And I use a LOT of different fonts, depending on the mood of the image in question. ...So I can't really say.
11.] When you scan your image, what DPI do you use?
No idea what that means and I have no scanner. Wish I did. The one at school always scanned PERFECTLY without having to touch any settings and I only needed to tweak the image slightly to make it darker. Now I have to use my cell phone (which thankfully takes great quality pics), then spend up to an hour or more editing them in a program. It gets the job done though...
12.] Do you do anything else when you're drawing?
Oh wow I'm super ADD so I always have something else going on. Mainly either episodes of an overly watched TV show or some tunes with catchy beats/lyrics. I usually look up images before drawing for either refs and/or inspiration, but sometimes I'll look up something new while working on an image. And chatting with friends (mostly ~SakeVanHelsing who keeps my butt in gear when I should be working xD).
13.] Approximately how many pictures do you draw in a month?
Approximately? You're kidding right. Who could give you straight up numbers? o_0
I don't know. I often get brain dead for doing art, and then the next day I'll crank out twenty pics from a new fandom thing. I can't say for sure. You'd have to watch or browse my gallery and see for yourself. I try to draw at least once a day though, but it usually ends up being a couple times a week at best.
14.] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Sketchbooks. Mainly. Sometimes whatever drawing surface is available when my brain's vomiting ideas. Also depends on medium. I actually have some watercolor paper and poster bard for special pics, but I rarely use it cause I don't have a lot. So mainly sketchbooks.
15.] What kind of paper do you use for rough sketches and drafts?
*see previous*
16.] How long does it take you to ink something?
Depending on details. If simple probably an hour or so, if super detailed maybe hour and a half or two hours? As I mentioned before I don't really keep track.
17.] Do you do comics, or fan comics?
Comics sometimes. I don't usually though. I have a super-mini comic that I did for an assignment once and has its own folder in my gallery: [link]
Other than that I dabble if I get ideas for something funny from friends, but I rarely actually draw them up. Oh and there's also this fan comic type thing I did once cause the idea was too cute to ignore: [link]
...Wait wait I forgot the "Bother Bruce" comics... That got its own Tumblr, but it's kinda dead now.
18.] Do you like comics? Are they fun to make?
Well yea or I wouldn't make them. And yes they are fun when I have time and muse for them, but lately I haven't muse.
19.] Have you ever submitted anything to a magazine?
School paper when I was a kid but those are super old and all suck. Other than that, no.
20.] Did it get published?
Well yea but few saw them.
21.] Who are your favorite artists?
Oh this'll be fun. There are many artists (some very good friends), who always inspire me when I'm browsing their art, but I'll be basic. The ones who inspired me when I was young (and continue to do so today), are *Goldenwolf, ~huskie666, ~kyoht, ~Emryswolf *darknatasha, ~sidian, and ~synnabar. All of which I knew of before DA from their own sites and was lucky to find that they were on this site.
22.] Do you like anime/manga? If so, what are your favorite series?
I do, yes. Not so much as when I was younger (high school - college), but I still try to keep up with and rewatch my very favorites.
Those being: Naruto (as seen in some recent submissions), Bleach (not so much anymore but I have some seasons on DVD), Get Backers, Gingas (Gin and Weed's story's are both excellent with fantastic characters), Fruits Basket (a bit more 'cute' than I usually get into but the story and characters sucked me in), Soul Eater, Vampire Knight (like many of the animes I watch, I blame my sister for this one), Saiyuki, ...and there's a bunch more I've watched and like, but those were the ones I was/am obsessed with.
-
As far as manga, I've only read some of Saiyuki, Get Backers, and Fruits Basket cause I don't like how the animes ended. Never did finish though. I also read some Bleach and Naruto when it's in a nearby Shonen when I'm bored.
23.] Do you like cartoons/comics? If so, what are your favorite series?
Cartoons... oh wow that's an even bigger list. Main: Danny Phantom, Batman, Fairly OddParents, DinoSquad (guilty pleasure lemmie alone), Young Justice, ...umm... Disney movies and a few other classics. Some popular 90s cartoons as that's what I grew up with. I can't list them all, but the few I did are in my fan art folder.
-
As far as comics: ...Not really any. I'll read any Batman, Hulk, and Werewolf by Night comic that I can get. I don't have any comic book stores nearby nor enough money for all the ones I want anyway, so I don't get to read a lot of comics.
24.] Any artists that you wish you could draw like?
`sideshowmonkey or *Goldenwolf. GIVE ME YOUR MONSTER SKILLS.
25.] Do you read a lot of books?
I used too. Not so much anymore though. I try to read classics like Jurassic Park or Alice In Wonderland. I also read and collect werewolf books of different sorts (novel and picture for example).
26.] Did you ever buy a book to inspire or teach you to draw?
Oh yes, but not so much lately. I'd like some more picture books on things I draw or want to draw more of. Like dobies and some of my favorite animals (gorillas, bats, polar bears, and deer for example). I already have several picture books for wolves, dinosaurs, whales, and turtles. I don't use them often enough. There's also a few "how to" books that I have (most are horses), but don't use very often. I used to a lot when I was first learning to draw.
27.] Any video games you enjoy?
I used to play mostly online or PC games as it was my only source of gaming. Runescape and Titan Quest were what I played most. Kinda recently though we acquired an xbox 360 and I've gotten rather addicted to some games. Batman Arkham Asylum and my sister's Naruto game to name a few. I also love dinosaur and other super hero games and I have a few of each.
28.] Any favorite characters from video games?
Batman (hence why I have that game at all), Yamato from Naruto (omfg his attacks my eyes i can't even), and there were a few from Final Fantasy when I watched my roommate play. Snow from FF...14 i think. And Auron I think was his name from FFX.
29.] Do you have a favorite writer?
Well my favorite books are Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban, Island of Doctor Moreau, and White Fang/Call of the Wild. So I guess, JK Rowling (even though she broke my heart in book 7), HG Wells, and Jack London.
30.] Any books you really enjoy?
*see previous* Also the already mentioned werewolf books, Jurassic Park, and Alice in Wonderland. There's a few others if I'm interested enough in the plot, but not much really worth mentioning.
31.] Do you draw fanart?
I didn't used to, or at least not so much, but now it's almost ALL I draw. And my fandoms are many so there's a lot to draw.
32.] Do you listen to music while you draw?
Oh yea.
33.] Any recommended songs?
If we're still talking art related here, then it depends on the mood of the drawing. I like listening to harder, faster paced songs with more upbeat and inspiring lyrics for action or happy scenes, and something slower and/or more depressing for a saddened image. I have several stations on Pandora for just about anything I want to draw from Hollywood Undead to Skillet.
34.] Any other art websites that you really enjoy?
The websites of those listed on 21 I used to frequent visit when I was younger, but now a days not really, no. Unless you count DA or FA.
35.] Are there any websites that you go to everyday?
FA, sometimes DA, YouTube… Google. Pandora. Uhh… I'm not sure really. Animation Source used to be on that list but it's so dead, I don't waste my time visiting more than once a week tops anymore.
36.] What is your dream website like?
Something I never thought about so hell if I know. Something that looks like it came from a black and white horror movie comes to mind, but again, never really thought about it. So can't say.
37.] Do you like your own art?
Sometimes. Lately not so much as I can't seem to put what's in my head on paper. 8/
38.] What do you enjoy watching on television? I'VE IGNORED SPELLING ERRORS AND WHAT NOT BUT I HAD TO EDIT HERE. HANNIBAL WASN'T ON THE LIST BEFORE CAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW IT EXISTED YET.
Well it's the season of reruns currently, and the only show that's airing new episodes over the summer, I can't watch as I don't get the channel (YAY INTERNET), so… not a lot. American Dad when I remember it's on. Comedy reruns if I can catch them. If I can catch a good rerun from my favorite shows (that I get), I may watch it. Criminal Minds, Person of Interest, and maybe Once Upon a Time. Saturday has the old shows of Star Trek and Batman that I watch if I remember it's on. And the weekly horror movie (often black and white and OFTEN a repeat and a half). Then I just found Hannibal (my new found love <3), which will be a problem when season two starts cause even though it fits perfectly with my schedule of being on right after POI it'll be on during mom's elementary ugh. AND IT'S ONLY 13 EPISODES A SEASON AND WON'T BE BACK TIL WHAT. SPRING OF NEXT YEAR?! I HATE THIS.
39.] Favorite celebrity?
Oh you're asking a good one. It changes all the time and I'm currently not obsessed with anyone. Though I still think highly of Mark Ruffalo. <3
40.] Favorite color?
Blue
41.] Favorite food?
*to quote my FA page* Steak, beef lo mein, bacon, hamburgers, shrimp, pulled pork, ham salad, sushi, bbq chicken, ...meat.
42.] Favorite drink?
I mostly drink water, but I delight in a warm cup of tea (or cold if it's summer) or coffee. Don't drink soda often, but if I had the option I'd get Birch Beer more often. Oh and I don't care if it's considered a chick drink, Twisted Teas are AMAZING (I love taping the bottle caps on my wall 8U). Oh and I also really REALLY like strawberry Gatorade.
43.] Do you like to go shopping? If yes, where? And for what?
Sometimes. Internet. Arts (or t-shirts/merchandise at Hot Topic [if I can find one that's not COMPLETELY corrupted]/Wal*Mart/wherever I have to go to get a fandom fix).
44.] Can you cook?
Yes. Can I cook well? …Eh? I can make a decent strawberry rhubarb pie. And rhubarb sauce. And omelets! I like to cook meat but don't get the chance often as we don't buy raw meat a lot. In all honestly I'm just learning, but compared to past incidents (lighting a pudding cup on fire), I think I can cook well.
45.] Any devices you use often for email?
Computer. I don't like doing things from my phone (my fucked up touch pad doesn't like me anyway). I don't even like taking care of my e-mail from the COMPUTER.
46.] Are you tech-savvy?
Not as much as my parents THINK, but both of them combined I know more than them. Doesn't say a lot but it gets me by.
47.] Do you want to become a professional artist?
I can't see art being my only source of income, but I'd like to make some money off it if I can.
48.] Are there any other jobs you're interested in?
Interested, yes. Capable of, no. I'd LOVE to work in a museum and show around and explain the attractions in the dinosaur exhibits. That'd be SO MUCH FUN.
49.] Any other hobbies or skills besides drawing?
Not really. I dabble in writing and taking photos, but I'm far from making a career of either of those.
50.] Do you like to watch movies?
Oh hell yes. One of my weaknesses I'll let you in on, I get SUPER pissed when someone tells me they've seen a movie I REALLY want to see. Especially if it's related to a fandom I'm fonder of then they are. Yea I have some jealousy issues, but after I've seen it I'm cool. And I love critiquing movies. Especially if it's fandom or werewolf related. Good luck getting me to shut up then.
51.] What's your favorite movie?
I can never pick one. I'll refer to my FA profile once more: "Avengers, American Werewolf in London, Jurassic Park, Sherlock Holmes, The Wolfman (both), and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron."
52.] Have you ever entered an art contest, here at DeviantART or otherwise?
Eh a few. I haven't joined any in a LONG time, and because of my self esteem issues I used to only join contest I was 85% sure I would win. Ugh.
53.] When did you start drawing seriously?
Hard to say as I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I do recall my improvement beginning around 7th grade or so. That was when I discovered my now favorite artists and was inspired to up my game so to speak.
54.] Do you use references? If so, for what?
Well yea. For markings/colors at the very least. I mean who doesn't. But also for certain species characteristics and/or poses. I like combining references if I have to use them, so as to end up with a unique drawing.
55.] Are you a subscriber? If so, are you a beta-tester?
I was a subscriber at least once. Then a friend paid for another month or so. It was neat being able to use journal skins and what other few features came with it, but the price is ridiculous. I have better things to buy than a sub. And no, I'm not a beta-tester, nor do I even know what that is.
56.] Do you have a lot of net friends?
I think more so than real life friends I'm sad to say… Dunno if you'd call that 'a lot' but it's a satisfying amount.
57.] Do you have a lot of friends that also draw?
A few. One or two that do I don't think take it as seriously (no one any of you know).
58.] What time of the day do you usually go online?
Late in the evening and through the night usually. I get on from my phone a lot too, so it's really all the time. Or at least when I'm not asleep.
59.] Do you like to go to chat rooms?
Not really, no. Group chats on Skype yea. If I can get the right people in one if they're even online. We used to have some of the most epic group chats… Wish we could have them more often.
60.] Do you have your own computer?
Debatable. I have a laptop, but it's kinda down and out for a while…
61.] What would you say to the person that you admire?
Even if I could think of something, I'd never get the words out. I get the worst stage fright around people I admire or just think are better than me.
62.] Does your mind wander when you draw?
ADD. (No, I'm not screaming ''add'. My friends and stalkers should know well enough by now I have attention deficit disorder. …Hence why this is taking MONTHS to fill out.)
63.] Have you drawn poorly because you think too much?
Off the top of my head I can't think of an occasion, but I wouldn't be surprised if I had. But now that I think about it, during personal art times, they usually happen BECAUSE I think too much. Working on commissions and the like probably take more focus than I'd like to give, and I can see why my ADD or over active thinking may delay that.
64.] Do you have any friends who are professional artists?
I know some people who are professionals, or friends who are seriously professional MATERIAL, but none that are super close or anything, no.
65.] Where do you often hang out?
When socializing- jk jk I don't have enough of a social life to speak of. Usually in the living room or my bedroom. …Or sib's room if she's not home and I want to hide away and throw batterangs at kneecaps.
66.] Are there any popular artists that you don't like much? (no need to name names if you don't want to)
Sometimes I'm shallow and wonder why the hell certain people get so much attention when they can't draw worth crap (but they're usually the ones who draw fan art so of COURSE they're going to get flocks of tasteless fans worshipping their every submission).
67.] Are there any situations in which you really don't like being a DeviantARTIST?
FUCKING. YES. When I'm browsing art or trying to submit something and a loud ass fucking add deafens me. Someone explain to me why DA needs adds that have FUCKING SOUND. JUST. NO. And when I'm just trying to fav and run or something quick with a drawing I found and really like, but that damn "more like it" box off to the side always keeps me on for hours longer than I wanted when I see something that looks just as awesome if not more out of the corner of my eye. That new addition to the site pissed me off and I want an option to disable it! >8U
…But anyway that's when I abandon DA for another month and lurk on FA. No noisy adds or 'more like' boxes to catch my ADD eyes.
68.] How about situations that make you love it?
*gimmie an hour to think about it* …Well depending on the subject of the drawing I'm submitting, I usually get more favs/comments (even though the comment margin is still very SMALL) on DA than I do FA. And my friends are on DA. I swear to Oprah though if you guys all up and left DA for FA I'd quit this place in a heartbeat.
69.] What's the one thing that makes you grateful that the internet exists?
First thing that popped into my head was my friends. Helping them or them being there if ever I needed someone to help me, that makes having the internet all worthwhile. Throw all your trolls at me, I don't care, just don't touch my friends and I'll put up with the millions of morons with internet access.
Another thing is having a way to share my art and see other people's. I love museums and art exhibits, but I'll have to move to Pitt and have one hell of a good paying job to keep up with those. So the net's good for that. As well as research. Laws I'm constantly Googling things. Be it a dinosaur skeleton as a reference for a drawing, or checking on a word that I want to use but am uncertain of its meaning. I could use any books that I have at my disposal (and I still try to when I can), but the net makes everything SO MUCH easier. And I don't always have in my possession/have access to what I need when I need it.
70.] Is there anything out there that makes you wish the internet didn't exist?
Trolls. I s'pose. They made my time as an AS mod hell for a while, but I really don't have any issues with them anymore. It's true, if you don't feed them, they go away.
71.] What's your first Deviation?
Well I actually changed accounts since I FIRST joined DA, so my first submission from that account is: [link] And holy hell can you tell it's OLD. Almost five years old… I'm not positive that was what I first posted to the site, but it's the first thing in my gallery so I'm just going to go with it.
72.] Any art you did prior to that?
Yea there're some drawings on Animation Source yet I believe. Posted to Balto Source of course…
73.] Has your style changed a lot since joining DeviantART?
I should say so. And definitely for the better.
74.] If it has changed, it what ways?
Seriously, just look at the link in 71 and then any of my most recent works. Anatomy, style, programs, mediums, coloring, the list goes on and on.
75.] Have you experienced artist's block before?
If you're an artist (aspiring or professional), and say 'no', then you're lying.
76.] If so, how do you usually get out of it?
Music, fandoms, other artists, what I see around me (books on my favorite drawing subjects for example). Can't think of anything else really. Any one of those or a combination of sorts usually does it.
77.] What do you do when you can't get out of it?
Cry.
78.] Any Deviants that have influenced you a lot?
My favorite artists (see #21) and friends.
79.] What made you want to start drawing?
Hell If I know. I think I just needed a way to express myself and/or escape the world, and drawing seemed like a do-able option. (Dunno how accurate that is but it feels right.)
80.] What made you want to join DeviantART?
I still remember the day a RL friend told me about it. After checking it out, I realized I could post everything I draw here (as opposed to limited subject matter on Balto source, like fan art or animals native to Alaska), as well as being able to express myself fully. I like cursing and if you don't fucking like it well then too bad.
81.] Has anything ever made you want to quit DeviantART?
*see 67* and add; I can't keep up with my messages worth shit.
82.] What do you think about netiquette?
Staring at a monitor instead of another person's face is no excuse to act like an asshole. So I think it's a good idea to have good 'netiquette'. …I have a vague idea what this term means so forgive me if my reply sounds wrong.
83.] Have you ever been spammed or trolled?
Spammed a few times sure. Trolled… probably. I don't really remember so if so it wasn't a big deal. I'm not a popular artist or anything so very few people think I'm worth their time to annoy.
84.] Ever thought about quitting art all together?
That's like asking if I've ever considered giving up fandoms. …Which is a big 'HEEEEEEEEEEELL NO'. Sometimes art (like fandoms) die down, and sometimes it goes crazy with inspiration, but I always come back around. It's a habit I'll never soon break.
85.] If so, why?
N/A
86.] Do you upload high quality versions of your Deviations, or do you prefer to upload a lower quality?
Best quality I can provide I guess. Usually PNG is what I consider "best quality". JPEG sucks balls just so you know.
87.] Do you have custom CSS? If so, did you make it yourself?
Wat.
88.] Do you have good vision?
I'm slowly going blind. But it's okay. The eye doctor said it's slowing down. 8|
No but seriously I do have terrible eye sight. One a touch worse than the other. And I of course wear glasses. I refuse contacts. I think glasses are sexy though so this is okay.
89.] If you can get anyone's autograph, whose would you get?
Oh dayum.. I'd die of awkward before I'd ever get the chance, but any of my favorite actors would be amazing to get.
90.] What would you say to that person when he or she gives you an autograph?
*dead from awkward* like seriously what very little confidence I have flat lines around VOICE actors. I wouldn't be able to say anything. If I could I'd probably try for 'thank you, big fan, love you, marry me, etc'.
91.] Do you like to draw on Oekaki BBS?
WAT.
92.] Do you have a job?
I had an amazing internship once that ended too soon but other than that, no.
93.] Did you take art in school? If so, did you do well? Are you still taking it?
Well that's all I went for in college. High school though I was always in an art class. WAY after I had all the needed credits even. My art teacher had to make up art classes just to put me somewhere, and many of the projects she came up with were from her own college experience. Those were fun years…
94.] Have you taken art lessons outside of a school setting?
Nah. I learned a couple things from friends though when drawing with them. And I'm mostly self taught if that counts for anything.
95.] Have you ever drawn something just because it was the cool thing to do -- the hip new fad?
I don't believe so. Unless it was a request (back when I accepted them, I don't now), commission, trade, or the like. I draw what I like. Not what's popular.
96.] What's your favorite phrase/quote?
Eh I have several. Most on FB and I don't feel like going there and they're most likely out dated for the most part anyway. But the one I use everywhere is:
"Live in the moment! Cause tomorrow, you might be dead." ~ Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
97.] Do you present yourself differently online than you do in your real life?
I'm not sure what you mean by that. I try to be myself on or offline. I'm more open online though. It's easier to do it when you can't see people's faces for some reason.
98.] What's your goal now?
To avoid this question.
99.] What do you have to say to yourself?
You're a failure at life who's going to suffer today while dog sitting after not sleeping at all last night.
100.] Lastly, what do you have to say to everyone who read this?
Hope I didn't waste TOO much of your time. Ugh I filled the last bit of this out just tonight so no Hannibal references. Sad.
This isn't a tag thing so if you wanna do it do it if you don't then don't. HAVE A NICE WEEKEND. *cries* I'm seriously going to suffer though why did I fuck up my sleep again.
